La peor es probablemente la Atrofia Progresiva de la Retina (ARP), que es una enfermedad hereditaria que hace que la retina se degenere. Algunos perros salchicha eventualmente se quedan ciegos de PRA. Los perros salchicha tambi\u00e9n pueden tener cataratas, que es cuando el cristalino se nubla y se vuelve lechoso, y algunos sufren de glaucoma, que es cuando hay demasiado l\u00edquido en el ojo. La mayor\u00eda de los casos caen en alg\u00fan lugar entre estos dos extremos. Los signos de IVDD pueden imitar los de discos con ruptura aguda, como por trauma o de otra manera, pero las causas son muy diferentes. IVDD ocurre m\u00e1s com\u00fanmente en ciertas razas, pero puede ocurrir en cualquier raza o mezcla de razas y en perros de cualquier edad o g\u00e9nero. Los due\u00f1os de perros afectados pueden notar uno o m\u00e1s de los siguientes s\u00edntomas, que pueden ser repentinos, intermitentes o de inicio gradual:<\/p><ul><li>Dolor y rigidez en el cuello (renuencia a mover el cuello y la cabeza)<\/li><li>Postura de la cabeza baja<\/li><li>Dolor y rigidez de espalda<\/li><li>Aullar inesperadamente cuando se toca o se mueve<\/li><li>Sensibilidad o tensi\u00f3n abdominal<\/li><li>Espalda arqueada (postura encorvada, llamada \"cifosis toracolumbar\")<\/li><li>Sensibilidad al tacto (posible agresi\u00f3n)<\/li><li>Sensibilidad al movimiento<\/li><li>Micci\u00f3n deteriorada, incompleta o inadecuada<\/li><li>Cojera<\/li><li>Arrastrar una o m\u00e1s piernas al caminar<\/li><li>\"Inclinarse\" o \"apretar los nudillos\" al caminar o pararse<\/li><li>Debilidad<\/li><li>Rigidez<\/li><li>Marcha forzada; Marcha tentativa<\/li><li>Renuencia a levantarse<\/li><li>Temblores, temblores, temblores<\/li><li>Falta de coordinaci\u00f3n (\"ataxia\")<\/li><li>Reflejos anormales<\/li><li>Colapso<\/li><li>Par\u00e1lisis en una o m\u00e1s extremidades<\/li><\/ul><p>Los propietarios a menudo notan signos similares despu\u00e9s de que su perro ha realizado una actividad f\u00edsica extenuante o ha experimentado un trauma f\u00edsico agudo. Este tipo de lesi\u00f3n traum\u00e1tica aguda no es lo mismo que IVDD, aunque los s\u00edntomas pueden ser muy similares. En razas condodistr\u00f3ficas como Dachshunds, Bulldogs y Bassett Hounds, la condrodistrofia se ve como deformidades angulares caracter\u00edsticas de las extremidades y patas anormalmente cortas, tambi\u00e9n conocidas como enanismo hereditario. Otras razas condrodistr\u00f3ficas incluyen Beagles, Corgis, Cocker Spaniels, Pekin\u00e9s, Shih-Tzus y Caniches. Las razas no condrodistr\u00f3ficas que se ven com\u00fanmente afectadas por IVDD incluyen pastores alemanes, labradores retrievers y Doberman Pinschers.
